The latest long-range forecast for the winter is out. Michigan sits in a distinct weather pattern that points to stormy weather.

NOAA produces a long-range forecast that covers the winter time period. They just issued the latest winter forecast.

Here is the temperature forecast for December through February. NOAA forecasts the colder-than-normal temperatures to spread across the northern Plains into the Upper Peninsula. Lower Michigan is in a forecast area the government forecasters label as “equal chances.” This more realistically means no significant deviation from normal. For those of us in Lower Michigan, that means cold enough air to call it a real winter. NOAA does not anticipate this winter being a “non-winter.”
