Far-reaching new powers enabling the DWP to access claimants' banking information could be rolled out to additional benefits. Legislation currently progressing through Parliament includes eligibility verification checks for certain benefits . This will empower the DWP to approach banks and financial institutions to request account details for benefit recipients, to ensure they qualify for their payments. ‌
