LEXINGTON, Ky. — A three-part road redesign project could improve safety on one of Lexington’s busiest.

Long stretches of sidewalks, side streets, interstates and major corridors, the area near New Circle Road on Lexington's north side is one of the busiest in the city, with historic neighborhoods, businesses and schools calling it home.

It has always had its challenges for commuters, said James Brown, north Lexington native and council member at-large.

“Just problems navigating that roadway, that corridor," Brown said. "There's an inconsistency in the sidewalks. There are no safe street crossings."

Since 2022, Lexington’s transportation department has partnered with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Metropolitan Planning Organization to change that.
