UK households buying SIX staples have been warned over rising prices at supermarkets. New Office for National Statistics (ONS) figures reveal the price of food and non-alcoholic drinks are up 4.5% compared to last year.
It means a basket of groceries that cost £100 a year ago now costs £104.50. The price of beef has seen the most shocking rise, with prices hiked by a jaw-dropping and eye-watering 26.9 per cent.
Chocolate, butter and whole milk have seen prices rise by 18.1 per cent, 17.5 per cent and 12 per cent respectively. Coffee is up 13.4 per cent - with sweets up 10 per cent, too. That takes the total number of household staples contributing to the inflation rise to six.
