Some Clinton Township taxpayers are crying foul after the township police department asked for tens of thousands in reimbursement when the department went over budget for a police millage renewal campaign in August.

The Clinton Township Police Department on Monday, Oct. 20 sought a $34,800 budget amendment for election expenses for the renewal proposal on the Aug. 5 ballot, which came in at about $84,000.

The department had originally budgeted approximately $50,000 for the campaign.

Critics of the request were not happy at Monday’s board of trustees meeting.

“Don’t ever do that again,” said Paul Shorsch, a self-described “ultra-MAGA” precinct delegate.
