Veteran broadcast journalist Kennie Bass has died, according to his social media account.

Bass, 62, retired earlier this year from WCHS-TV and WVAH-TV in the Kanawha Valley after more than 46 years working in radio and television. He had been battling cancer and was recently moved to hospice care.

Bass, a Nitro native who got his start as a sports reporter, was inducted in 2018 into the West Virginia Broadcasting Hall of Fame.
