The wind this past week has been howling — it seems like pretty much every day this past week.
It’s made fishing a lot harder just trying to stay on a spot and has kept many folks off the area lakes. If you're using pitching jigs, you get that bow in your line and it makes feeling a bite much more difficult.
If I’m fishing in 20 feet or less I like to use a 1/8-ounce jig, but in high winds I’ll move up to a 1/4 or even a 3/8-ounce jig and that seems to help. The walleye bite continues quite good using jigs and minnows, live bait rigs and minnows, and Jigging Raps.
This past week my guide clients and I have been catching walleyes from 10-40 inches. Look to lakes Bemidji, Plantagenet, Andrusia and Gull.
