A six-year-old Standard 2 pupil from Gomeza Primary School in Ntcheu has died after drowning in the Mpira Dam.

The boy’s uncle, Fanuel Njayo, said the child had gone swimming with friends after school.

Njayo explained that when the boy’s friends realized he had drowned, they rushed to alert nearby villagers, who quickly pulled him out of the water.

He was rushed to the hospital, but medical personnel confirmed he had already died.

Meanwhile, Ntcheu police are yet to comment on the matter.
