The suspect accused of stabbing the former mayor of Fall River, Massachusetts, earlier this week is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.

Thirty-one-year-old Coree Gonzales was arrested Tuesday in connection with the stabbing of Will Flanagan on Monday night. Flanagan remains hospitalized in serious but stable condition.

Gonzales has been charged with four counts of assault and battery on a police officer, as he reportedly assaulted officers while being arrested on Tuesday morning. It was not immediately clear what charges he faces in connection with Flanagan's stabbing.
