A first half corner kick proved to be the difference Tuesday in a first-round match in the State AA playoffs at Amend Park in Billings.
Talon Wicks delivered a kick toward the front of Belgrade’s goal and Gannon Moore tapped it in for the lone goal of the contest as No. 4 Billings West defeated No. 5 Belgrade 1-0.
The Golden Bears advanced to a quarterfinal match at Western AA champion Missoula Hellgate Friday, while Belgrade wrapped up its season with 5-9-1 record.
“We had a really hard-fought game,” Panthers head coach Dr. Robert Lemley said. “Credit to West for having run of play in first half but we were able to keep them at bay until a corner kick that rolled across a number of players to have West tap it in fairly early.”
Billings West (9-4-2) controlled the first half and scored
