Pierre Engvall‘s season has come to an early end.
The New York Islanders forward will be out for the season after undergoing successful ankle surgery on Tuesday, the team announced.
Engvall was already on injured reserve as he was recovering from off-season hip surgery.
Last season, the 29-year-old forward recorded eight goals and seven assists over 62 games with the Islanders.
Engvall was dealt to the Islanders by the Toronto Maple Leafs at the 2023 NHL trade deadline. He then signed a seven-year, $21-million contract with the Islanders on July 1, 2023.
In some good news for the Islanders, the team announced Wednesday that goaltender Semyon Varlamov is skating and still progressing.
Varlamov is on injured reserve as he works his way back from knee surgery. He was limited to just 10
