EAST LANSING — Michigan State University President Kevin Guskiewicz announced that 99 positions were eliminated from the university as part of budget cuts in recent months , according to a letter to staff and faculty sent on Oct. 22.

In May, MSU announced plans to reduce general fund spending by $85 million by next year. This fiscal year, beginning July 1, the university started working towards a 6% budget cut.

The 99 positions included several executive roles, according to the memo, but did not include non-renewed fixed-term positions, for example. The cuts also included support staff and faculty and academic staff.
