A Jersey City man was arrested after barricading himself inside an Elmwood Park home with his children on Tuesday, Oct. 21, police said.

Officers responded to an address on Donor Avenue around 6:26 p.m. to assist the Division of Child Protection & Permanency in serving a civil court order, according to Elmwood Park Police Chief Michael Foligno.

Officers and a representative from the division made contact with Almalik H. Hogan, 36, who was informed of a judge-signed order granting temporary custody of his children to their mother, Foligno said.

Hogan “became uncooperative and irate,” police said, “subsequently barricading himself inside of the residence by locking all of the doors and covering the windows with sheets.” His children were also inside the home at the time.

The Bergen County Regional SWAT team was called to assist. “After all attempts to negotiate with Mr. Hogan, the SWAT team made entry into the residence and placed Mr. Hogan in custody without any further incident,” Foligno said.

All parties involved were provided medical attention with no injuries being reported, the chief said.

Hogan was processed at the Elmwood Park Police Department and later taken to the Bergen County Jail, where he will remain pending his first court appearance.

He is charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child (2nd and 3rd degree), obstruction of justice (4th degree), and contempt of court (4th degree), police said.
