DALLAS — A man died Monday after a burial vault fell on him at a Dallas funeral home, officials say.

According to Dallas Fire-Rescue, firefighters responded to a call about a burial vault falling on a worker at the Restland Funeral Home at 13005 Greenville Ave.

A burial vault is the vessel, often made from concrete, that houses a casket and protects it from the elements after burial.

DFR said when firefighters arrived, the man was pinned from the waist down by the vault. The department said the first responding units were able to lift the vault using hydraulic spreaders and air bags and free the man.
