When former RAAF system engineer Charles Windsor started his Canberra-based technology company Cognitive Advantage in 2018, the biggest challenge was getting his first customer.

"The federal government was our first client," Mr Windsor told The Canberra Times .

An initial $330,000 tender was amended to $480,000 to deliver a private cloud deployment for the Department of Defence.

Now the business, which specialises in off-grid internet access, wireless connectivity and secure networks for defence, emergency services, and disaster relief, employs 10 people and has expanded into Queensland.

Its most recent government tender, also for Defence, is worth $6.6 million.
