Nassau County District Attorney Anne T. Donnelly announced that a Queens-based school bus company and its owners were charged for filing false liability insurance certificates for student transportation in the Valley Stream Central High School District between 2019 and 2024. Cheese Bus, Inc., Malik Turnage, Sr., 52, and Malik Turnage, Jr., 27, were each arraigned on October 21, 2025, before Judge Michele Johnson on charges of four counts of Offering a False Instrument in the First Degree (an E felony) and two counts of Insurance Fraud in the Fifth Degree (an A misdemeanor). Turnage, Sr. and Turnage, Jr., pleaded not guilty and were released on their own recognizance. The defendants are due back in court on November 5, 2025. If convicted, they face 1-1/3 to 4 years in prison.
