WASHTENAW COUNTY, MI — Washtenaw County has launched a new food scrap drop-off pilot program after receiving almost $10,000 in grant funding to help divert organic waste from landfills.
The Washtenaw County Water Resources Commissioner’s Office secured the grant from Closed Loop Partners’ Composting Consortium and Biodegradable Products Institute to establish drop-off sites where residents can bring food scraps and certified compostable products for processing, according to a release.
Current partners include the City of Ypsilanti, Washtenaw County Facilities Management and the Washtenaw County Resiliency Office.
Officials plan to expand the program to Dexter and Salem Township at a later date.
