New York Giants edge defender Brian Burns said his emotional outburst leaving the field after Sunday’s loss to the Denver Broncos wasn’t meant as criticism of his defensive coordinator. It came from disbelief that the pass, a 29-yarder from Denver quarterback Bo Nix to wide receiver Marvin Mims, actually got completed.
“That call was perfect for that situation because there was 30 seconds left, no timeouts. Catch, tackle, game over,” Burns said. “The ball wasn’t even aiming for Mims. It was for Courtland [Sutton]. He missed the throw and it just fell in his lap.
“It was just unlucky.”
The play helped set up the game-winning field goal for Denver in the Giants’ 33-32 loss on sunday.
Burns said his reaction was “disbelief.”
