WINNEBAGO COUNTY, Ill. — The name of the victim of the crash on I-88 in Lee County on Monday was released, along with other details.

An investigation showed that just before 9:30 a.m., 27-year-old Araceli Zepeda of Rochelle was a passenger in a vehicle driving west on I-88. The driver then hit another vehicle, went off the road, and crashed into a tree.

Illinois State Police and the Rochelle Fire Department rushed to the scene. When they arrived, they found Zepeda unconscious.

Emergency medical care was given, and Zepeda was airlifted to a local hospital. Despite their life-saving efforts, Zepeda was pronounced dead that evening around 8 p.m.

The Winnebago County Coroner's Office completed an autopsy, and the cause of death is still pending.
