VAN WERT, Ohio (WANE) - The U.S. Postal Service is investigating a case of mail being burned by an employee Wednesday morning.
Around 7:30 a.m., an officer with the Van Wert Police Department responded to a home where someone had reported an unattended fire in the yard, according to a press release shared by Chief Doug Weigle.
In the backyard of a house in the 900 block of George Street - where a Van Wert postal carrier lived - the officer found "evidence of postal mail being burned," according to the release.
The investigation revealed the carrier had been burning mail that was not his and hadn't been delivered to the intended recipients.
