When the Minnesota Vikings take the field for a Week 7 matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers on Thursday night, quarterback J.J. McCarthy will miss his fifth consecutive game since suffering a high-ankle sprain in Week 2.
On Tuesday, Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell announced veteran QB Carson Wentz as the team's starter in Week 7. Undrafted rookie signal caller Max Brosmer will serve as Wentz's backup, with McCarthy listed as the team's emergency third-string option.
"I'm encouraged about where [McCarthy] is at," O'Connell said during his midweek press conference. "Very much looking forward to continuing his progression and hopefully having a chance to go next week."
