Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday said that women receiving benefits under the ‘ Lakhpati Baideo ‘ scheme should limit their families to three children, revising the state’s earlier two-child policy.
Speaking at a public event in Nagaon under the Mahila Udyamita Asoni (Women Empowerment Scheme), CM Sarma said, “Our Lakhpoti Baideos should maintain the birth rate at three, not more than that. Earlier, we said two children are enough, but now we’ve increased it to three as our population has become a minority."
