After beating his father to death inside the Milford home they shared in 2003, Douglas Herlihy wrapped the body in a bloodied piece of carpet and began digging a grave to hide the remains, grand jury indictments handed up last week allege.

The additional charges reveal new details about Douglas Herlihy’s alleged attempts to thwart the investigation into his father’s murder. The four indictments handed up by a Hillsborough County Superior Court grand jury Oct. 16 also narrow the time frame in which authorities say Paul Herlihy, 50, was killed to Aug. 23-24, 2003. The original complaint said the murder occurred between Aug. 23-27, 2003.
