SARASOTA, Fla. ( WWSB ) - The federal government shutdown entered its 22nd day with another vote to reopen the government scheduled for later today. The funding lapse is now the second-longest in modern history.

Federal employees are missing paychecks, and food aid programs for needy families are running out of money. In Florida alone, 155,000 federal workers are furloughed without pay.

Rep. Vern Buchanan , R-Fla., is co-sponsoring legislation that would withhold congressional pay during government shutdowns.

“We’re sponsoring a bill that basically says, no budget, no pay,” Buchanan said. “If you don’t deliver a budget, get back to work.”

Buchanan said Republicans have voted to reopen the government. He blamed five or six Democratic senators for holding up the process.
