JASPER, Texas (KTRE) - Jasper County is in the process of fielding bids to renovate the jail in order to house more inmates.

The county has moved some storage files that were in an old recreation room to the courthouse. The plan is for that room to be remodeled into two pods, which will house seven inmates each.

According to Sheriff Chuck Havard, the jail currently houses 15 inmates from other counties.

Commissioners will approve a bid sometime within the next month. They are hoping to keep the cost of the renovation to less than $600,000.
