The ongoing federal government shutdown is taking a toll on national wildlife areas across the nation, including those along the Jersey Shore.

The shutdown is also affecting many partnering non-profit groups that provide support for wildlife refuges.

For example, nature is still alive and on full display at the Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge , but the visitors' center is closed down.

The refuge is a coastal haven for nature enthusiasts that extends along more than 50 miles through Atlantic, Ocean and Burlington counties in South Jersey.

The visitors' center in Galloway Township is home to the gift shop which is run by the " Friends of Forsythe National Wildlife Refug
