Wilmington has expanded tax benefits for military personnel to include more members of the uniformed services.
Previously, only branches like the Army, Navy, and Air Force were exempt from earned income tax under city code.
Now, commissioned officers in the U.S. Public Health Service and NOAA are also eligible, following the passage of Ordinance 25-058 last Thursday, October 16.
City Council says these groups play a vital role in protecting public health and safety and by expanding this exemption, Wilmington recognizes the often overlooked contributions of these professionals.
Councilwoman McCoy says the change ensures all who serve the nation are recognized equally.
