Meet the ghosts of Salem’s Historic Grand Theatre

The ghost hunters stood in the basement of the Grand Theatre while Zoey Damon sat criss-cross on the floor, a crystal on a chain hanging from her fingers.

Damon had established that, should the crystal move forward and backward on the chain, that would indicate a “yes” response from the spirits around them. But so far, she hadn’t been able to establish which movement would mean a “no.”

Silence stretched, and ghost hunter Chelsea Serpas glanced occasionally at her spirit box. Some believe the machine can turn radio frequencies into words or phrases at a ghost’s behest, which the box will show on the screen, as a robotic voice in a British accent reads the words aloud. The box had been silent for over five minutes.

Damon felt her head getting heavier and heavier, as if a phantom hand was
