Popular social media platform Reddit is suing Perplexity AI as well as other entities, alleging the companies profited off of Reddit user data without permission.
Reddit sued another AI company, Anthropic, in June.
This time, Reddit also targeted a data-scaping company in the lawsuit that it says contributed to Perplexity’s ability to train its chatbot on unknowing Reddit users’ posts and comments.
Reddit alleges in the lawsuit that the companies used methods to bypass Reddit’s own protections against data scraping.
AI companies worldwide have come under fire ever since their rise to commercial prominence for the content and methods they used for training their chatbots to have human-like interactions.
