WASHINGTON (AP) — U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Wednesday that the Trump administration was preparing to announce increased sanctions on Russia as U.S.-led efforts to end the war flounder and Ukraine's president seeks more foreign military help.
Bessent told reporters at the White House that an announcement about "a substantial pickup in Russia sanctions" would be made later Wednesday or Thursday morning. He made the comments as NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte was in Washington for talks with President Donald Trump. The military alliance has been coordinating deliveries of weapons to Ukraine, many of them purchased from the United States by Canada and European countries.
