NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (WFSB) - There are growing calls for homeschooling regulations in Connecticut two weeks after Jacqueline Torres-Garcia’s remains were found in New Britain.
Jacqueline was pulled out of the New Britain school system on what would have been the start of sixth grade. Her mother Karla Garcia said she was being homeschooled, and two months later, Jacqueline was dead.
Real estate broker and mother Brenda Milhomme of Vernon is trying to make sure a tragedy like Jacqueline’s doesn’t happen again in Connecticut.
“It broke my heart, so I needed to make sure something was done,” Milhomme said.
Brenda is pushing for Mimi’s Law, named after Jacqueline’s nickname. Her petition on Change.org is starting to gain momentum, along with other similar petitions.
