DES MOINES, Iowa ( KCCI ) - A trial date has been set for former Des Moines Public Schools Superintendent Ian Roberts, who is facing federal immigration charges.
Roberts’ trial will begin December 1. If found guilty, he could be fined, imprisoned for up to 15 years, or both.
Immigration officials arrested Roberts on September 26 . Officials say police found a gun, a knife and $3,000 in cash in a district vehicle Roberts was driving.
A grand jury indicted Roberts for lying on his I-9 form submitted as part of his hiring process for Des Moines Public Schools in 2023. The indictment says Roberts claimed he was a U.S. citizen “knowing he was not in fact a United States citizen.”
