BILLINGS, Mont. – President Trump's recent proposal to import beef from Argentina has stirred concerns among Montana cattle ranchers. After visiting Argentina, Trump suggested, "We would buy some beef from Argentina. If we do that, that will bring our beef prices down."
The statement did not sit well with American cattle producers. Ty Thompson, a cattle sale manager at Billings Livestock and Auction Yards, expressed his disagreement.
"Cattle market is a free market and always has been. Consumers will tell us when the beef is too high. I think it's outlandish for the president to come out and say the beef is too high and he's going to get it down himself," said Thompson.
