Less than 10 months into her first term, Scottsdale Mayor Lisa Borowsky has shaken up things in her office.

Borowosky changed her chief of staff from former journalist Terrance Thornton to political consultant R.L. Whitmer as of Oct. 6.

Whitmer, who also goes by Lamar Whitmer, is collecting a salary of $135,013.

“He’s just been very involved in city hall issues, municipal issues, for as long as I’ve been involved,” Barowsky said. “Far longer. And he just has a lot of in-depth experience and knowledge and strategic thinking when it comes to how to make municipal government better, leaner, more efficient and more responsive to residents.”

Whitmer did not return multiple emails or a call for comment of this story.

Meanwhile, Thornton is still on the mayor’s staff as management analysis.
