HAMDEN, Conn. — Connecticut’s first upgraded bus shelter was unveiled Wednesday as part of a plan to modernize hundreds of bus stops across the state.
The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is working to redesign and improve the safety, accessibility and functionality of more than 600 of the busiest stops by 2029.
The first revamped shelter in Hamden includes new concrete, ADA-compliant seating and a board with maps and food and housing resources.
At the ribbon-cutting ceremony, CTDOT Commissioner Garrett Eucalitto emphasized that the changes are in direct response to rider feedback.
“What do you like? What do you not like, what do we need to do better?” Eucalitto said.
Safety was one of the top concerns expressed by riders.
