GULFPORT, Fla. (WFLA) — The City of Gulfport is getting complaints from residents because people are living in their cars at a parking lot along the water.
"The police department is keeping an eye on it and we're going to manage the issue as it comes about,” said City Manager Jim O’Reilly.
While it's against Florida law for people to set up tents and sleep in a public place, if they're sleeping in their own registered vehicle, it's completely legal.
A resident took his complaints to the city council earlier this month, saying when he calls police, they say they’re not able to do anything about it.
“I don't quite understand that myself, but I’ve heard from the neighbors over there that they're not really happy with that either,” he said in the meeting.
