A long-awaited review of Western Australia’s outdated School Education Act will be tabled in parliament on Thursday, after disability advocates pushed for its release.

A freedom of information request asking for the review, submitted by Square Peg Round Whole founder Symone Wheatley-Hey returned pages upon pages of redacted material.

After stating her frustrations over the refusal for “basic transparency”, Education Minister Sabine Winton promised to publicly table the report.

On Thursday morning, Winton revealed the report would “ensure that disability is not a consideration for denial of enrolment in WA schools”, and call for a child’s disability to be considered when deciding on suspensions or exclusions.
