ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — Former St. Petersburg Mayor David Fischer has died at the age of 92.

Fischer's daughter, Susan Fischer McGarry, shared the news on social media Wednesday, writing that her "wonderful Dad passed away peacefully." She added that her father was a "civic leader who will be greatly missed."

Fischer served as mayor from 1991 to 2001. It was a period of revitalization for St. Pete, with Fischer placing an emphasis on downtown redevelopment and cultural investment, according to the St. Petersburg Museum of History.
