It's time to nominate an outstanding young person attending Cumberland County Schools as one of The Fayetteville Observer's Future Black History Makers of 2026.

We're changing things up a bit this year, though.

In response to community feedback, we have expanded the program, which we began in 2023 in honor of Black History Month, to include high school students.

These students are standouts because of academics, sports, artistry, kindness and humor. This year, we'll continue to include both elementary and middle school students.
