A male victim died Wednesday after a shooting on Fort Wayne’s south side, police said.

Fort Wayne Police Department officers responded to a report of a person shot about 5:45 p.m. in the 3500 block of Lafayette Street.

The male, who was inside a home, had a gunshot wound, a news release said. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead about 6:30 p.m.

Detectives were interviewing witnesses and searching for evidence after the shooting. Police have asked that anyone with information or video call city police at 260-427-1222 or Crime Stoppers at 260-436-7867 or use the anonymous P3 Tips app.

The county coroner’s office will perform an autopsy and release the identify of the victim after next of kin are notified.
