A Virginia city is devastated by the death of a 3-year-old girl hit by a car over the weekend on a popular pedestrian stretch.

Winchester is one of those places where everyone knows one another, and tragedy like this hits hard.

“I have young grandchildren,” pedestrian Nancy Ryan said. “Just raising my own children, it’s the worst nightmare a parent could have.”

“It’s a big thing for the community,” resident Jeffrey Ryan said. “We were, I think, a lot of us are very shocked.”

A memorial of flowers and stuffed animals grows at the intersection of Loudoun and Boscawen streets where the crash happened Saturday afternoon. Many stopped by Wednesday to show their support.
