A former Australian National University School of Music teacher who allegedly sexually abused a young student has been accused of contacting "numerous people" who may be witnesses in the case.

After facing the ACT Magistrates Court for the first time on Thursday, October 23, Vincent Gordon Edwards can be identified as the alleged perpetrator of the historical crimes.

ACT Policing previously revealed the 87-year-old man's alleged victim reported multiple sexual assaults occurred while she was a primary school student taking music lessons in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

As a result, investigators visited the man at his south-eastern NSW home and issued him with a summons to appear in court.
