HALE COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) -- What was supposed to be a week of fun homecoming activities at Hale County High School has taken on a somber tone after a sophomore died following a pedestrian accident Sunday night.
Students, family and faculty gathered in front of the high school Wednesday night to pray and honor the memory of Slade Holcomb.
“The kids are taking it hard, the adults are taking it hard, teachers in this building, people in the community that know the family,” said Ronnie Garner, Principal of Hale County High School.
According to ALEA, the 16-year-old died at the hospital after being hit by a pickup truck while in the roadway on Alabama 69, 12 miles south of Tuscaloosa near mile marker 133 on Sunday evening.
