KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- More than two weeks removed from Barb Hart’s termination, the community at Sunset Ridge Elementary is still fighting to get her back.

“We still aren't okay with this decision,” said Sunset Ridge parent Amy Bednarz.

“And we still hope to see her back here at Sunset Ridge.”

The Blue Valley School District’s Board of Education terminated Hart’s contract for violating the board’s policy on Emergency Safety Interventions. Hart is a 25-year veteran teacher who picked up a five-year-old in distress to take them to a safe space in her classroom.

Board member Jim McMullen says that the termination wasn’t warranted and says that he wishes he did more during the meeting where Hart was terminated.
