A cat owner has had a huge shock after a spot on his kitty turned out not to be a "pimple" but a deadly parasite .

Confused about the growth on his cat's chin, the man shared photos of his pet on Reddit asking for advice .

"Should I be concerned? My outdoor cat has this long pimple looking thing...," he said.

"He is male, fixed, outdoor cat, and 1 1/2 to 2 years old. Vet not contacted. I'm a broke college student but can pick up a delivery gig to pay for things if its serious.

"It's been growing on him for 3 days now and has the feel of a long corn kernel. Is there anything I can do for him and should I be worried?"

Fellow pet owners immediately responded to the post to inform the owner the "pimple" is most likely a tick.
