FRANKFORT, Ky. (WSAZ) – Two first responders who survived an ambush attack in Floyd County, Kentucky, in 2022 shared emotional testimony before Kentucky lawmakers on Wednesday.

At the time of the attack, Darrin Lawson was a Floyd County Sheriff’s Deputy and Joe Reynolds was the Floyd County Emergency Management Director.

Both men testified to lawmakers about how that day changed their lives and why they feel changes need to be made when it comes to hazardous duty benefits.

Both Lawson and Reynolds responded to the shooting scene in Allen, and Lawson was shot in the leg in the attack. Reynolds suffered a gunshot wound to the head.

Three officers were killed that day, as well as K-9.
