GAYLORD — The Refuge's second annual "Soup for Hope" lunch provided a way for participants to walk in the shoes of someone homeless and raised over $6,500 on Tuesday, Oct. 14.

In return for a donation, lunch attendees were given a bowl of soup and a sandwich made by local congregations to replicate a traditional meal setting for the homeless. Troopers from the Michigan State Police were assisted by members of NMSAS, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping those with addictions find recovery, and the Northeast Michigan Community Service Agency, whose housing services pick up and continue after a household works with The Refuge.
