A beloved food brand has collapsed — again — with 34 workers now out of a job.

Spring Gully Foods, the South Australian -based company behind generations of pickled onions, gherkins and relishes, has officially shut its doors after nearly 80 years in business.

The family-run operation, founded in 1946 by the Johnston family, has entered voluntary administration, bringing an end to one of the state’s household names.

On Thursday, even South Australian premier Peter Malinauskas said the loss of the business would be sad for the state.

“It’s an iconic brand, I like it myself... so it’s always unfortunate we hear a set of circumstances like this,” he said.
