Regular readers of the This Is the Day column are aware that each article’s devotional idea centers around an historical event having occurred on the date of the article’s appearance in this newspaper. Sometimes those are rather renowned dates (July 4, Oct. 12, etc.), and other times they are somewhat obscure events I happen upon in my research and align with spiritual analogies. But today’s chosen date possess one of the most fantastical characteristics of all. Oct. 23, after all, was the day that the earth was created (at least according to Archbishop James Ussher in his “Annals of the Old Testament”). Specifically, he calculated the event to have taken place at 9 a.m. on Oct. 23 in 4004 B.C.
