As temperatures start to plummet at this time of year, many households face the dilemma of whether to maintain their heating on a low setting throughout the day or crank it up for shorter bursts.
Industry specialists have described the matter as 'complicated' and stress that the answer largely depends on the type of boiler or heating system you've got installed.
Sky Money consulted Ryan Willdig, a heating specialist from Heatforce, who explained: "There has been a lot of misinformation over the years... In reality, it's far more efficient and cost-effective to only use the heating when required.
"Keeping the heating on all day means the boiler is working to maintain a temperature even when you don't need it (when you're not home). This uses quite a bit
